Through the EMIA scheme, the dtic partially offsets your qualifying costs when you invest in promoting your products and services abroad—whether it’s entering new export markets or attracting foreign direct investment. This includes:

  • Individual Exhibition Participation: Covers costs like return economy airfare, transport of samples, stand construction, interpretation, internet and telephone setup, subsistence, and exhibition fees—up to R50 000. 

  • Primary Market Research and FDI Support: Covers airfare, subsistence, sample logistics, and marketing material for outbound research or investment outreach. 

  • Inward Buying Missions: Supports your hosting of foreign buyers or investment interests with funding for airfare, subsistence, etc., even including 50% of patent registration costs abroad (capped at R100 000/year). 

Eligibility extends to South African manufacturers, export trading houses, commission agents (representing multiple SMMEs or HDI-owned businesses), and export councils or associations representing several entities.
